Join Me on a South Africa & Mozambique Safari Tour: June 17–26, 2027
Some trips you take and others change the way you see the world. I’m hosting a small group on a 10-day journey through South Africa and Mozambique from June 17 to 26, 2027, and I would love for you to come with me. We’ll ride the cable car up Table Mountain, watch penguins waddle across Boulders Beach, track the Big Five on safari, and finish barefoot on a white-sand island in the Indian Ocean.
This is a Roam by Tauck land journey. Roam is Tauck’s newer collection built for curious, active travelers who want five-star comfort without a stiff, buttoned-up tour. It’s an ideal fit for travelers in their 30s, 40s and 50s, whether you’re coming as a couple, on your own, or with your best friends for the girls trip you’ve been talking about for years.

Why Travel to Africa With Me?
I’m a travel advisor, but first I’m a traveler, and most of my trips have been solo. I know what it feels like to want a big adventure and not want to plan every flight, transfer and dinner reservation on your own. I also know how much better a trip is when you have good people to share it with and you don’t have to stress about the logistics.
- You’ll have a friend on the trip from day one. Solo travelers never have to walk into the welcome dinner alone. I’ll introduce you to everyone before we even land.
- I handle the details before you go. I’ll help you figure out what to pack for a safari and a beach in one suitcase, and choose the right travel protection.
- You pay the same price as booking direct. Booking through me doesn’t cost you extra. You get the same Roam by Tauck price plus a personal advisor who answers your texts.
- Our group will get together before we leave. We’ll have a virtual meet-and-greet and a packing night so the group already feels like friends at the airport.
- The hard parts are already done. Africa can feel intimidating to plan: bush flights, safari lodges and island transfers across two countries. Tauck has been guiding travelers for 100 years, and a Roam Director and local guides will lead us the entire way.
- I can offer you a free pre or post night hotel stay! Arrive a night early to adjust to our new time zone or relax for an additional night at the end of our journey.
Who This Tour Is Perfect For
Couples
A private dinner under the stars at a safari lodge, a sunset cruise past hippos, and a castaway picnic on a deserted beach. If you’ve been looking for a once-in-a-lifetime anniversary trip or a milestone birthday, this is it.
Solo Travelers
Guided travel is the easiest way to see Africa on your own. You get your own room, a built-in group of travel friends, and a host who has been the solo traveler at the table many times. Solo rooms on this departure are limited, so reach out early if you’d like one.
Girls Trips
Wine tasting in the Cape Winelands, sandboarding, a spa afternoon on the island and a sunset hike up Lion’s Head. Grab your best friends, share a room to save, and let someone else plan every luxurious detail.
South Africa & Mozambique Itinerary: Day by Day
Days 1–3: Cape Town
We begin with three nights at the One&Only Cape Town on the V&A Waterfront. After a welcome reception, our first dinner together is at ROOI. The next day we ride the cable car to the top of Table Mountain, visit the African penguin colony at Boulders Beach, and end with a late-afternoon hike up Lion’s Head for sunset views over the city and the Atlantic.
On day three you choose your own adventure on a private jeep tour: wine tastings and a gourmet picnic in the Cape Winelands, or a dune drive with sandboarding and lunch at a desert camp. Afternoons are free to shop the waterfront or relax at the spa.
Days 4–6: Big Five Safari in Marakele National Park
A charter flight takes us to Marataba Safari Lodge in the Marakele National Park area, in the Waterberg mountains. This is the heart of the trip: morning and evening game drives in search of the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo), plus rare antelope and one of the largest Cape vulture colonies in the world. We’ll share a private dinner under the stars and take a sunset river cruise to spot hippos and crocodiles. Midday breaks are yours for naps, the pool, or a book on your veranda.
Days 7–9: Benguerra Island, Mozambique
We fly to the Bazaruto Archipelago and spend three nights at &Beyond Benguerra Island, a barefoot-luxury lodge on the Indian Ocean. Snorkel the coral gardens of Two Mile Reef, then pick your afternoon: kayaking or paddleboarding, a spa treatment, or horseback riding on the beach. Keep an eye out for dolphins, sea turtles and even dugongs. Our final full day brings a private “castaway” picnic on a secluded beach and a farewell dinner on the sand.
Day 10: Fly Home (by Helicopter First)
We say goodbye with a scenic helicopter flight over the islands to Vilankulos Airport (VNX), where you connect home through Johannesburg or extend your stay.
What’s Included
- 9 nights in hand-picked 4-star and 5-star hotels and lodges
- 23 meals: 9 breakfasts, 7 lunches and 7 dinners
- 4 in-tour flights, including the charter to safari and the helicopter to Vilankulos
- All game drives, excursions and “Your Choice” activities
- Gratuities for your Roam Director, guides, drivers and hotel staff
- Airport transfers and fuel surcharges
Not included: International airfare (you’ll fly into Cape Town and home from Vilankulos, Mozambique), travel protection, and optional extras during free time.
Why June Is a Great Time for a South Africa Safari
June is winter in southern Africa, and it’s one of the best times of year for a safari. It’s the dry season, so the bush thins out and animals gather around water, which makes wildlife much easier to spot. Mornings on game drives are crisp (the lodge provides blankets), Cape Town days are cool and mild, and Mozambique stays warm enough for snorkeling and beach time. You get three climates in one trip.

- Add travel protection within 10 days of your deposit if you want Tauck’s Guest Protection ($799 per person), which includes cancel for any reason coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does the South Africa and Mozambique tour cost?
The June 17–26, 2027 departure is $15,790 per person when two people share a room and $18,616 for a solo traveler in their own room.
Can I join if I’m traveling solo?
Absolutely. Solo travelers are a big part of why I host group trips. Solo room availability on this date is limited, so book early.
Do I need a visa for South Africa or Mozambique?
According to Tauck, U.S. citizens do not need a visa for either country on this itinerary. You’ll need a passport valid for at least six months after the trip ends. Non-U.S. citizens should check with each country’s embassy, and everyone should confirm entry rules again before travel.
How active is this trip?
Roam by Tauck rates it up to activity level 5. The most active pieces are the Lion’s Head hike, snorkeling, kayaking and horseback riding, and several days offer easier “Your Choice” options like wine tasting or a spa. If you’re comfortable walking a few miles on uneven ground, you’ll be fine. Ask me if you’re unsure.
Are flights included?
Four flights during the tour are included. Your international flights arriving to Cape Town and departing for home from Vilankulos are not.
Does it cost more to book through Heidi?
No. You pay the same price as booking with Tauck directly, and you get a personal advisor and a host on the trip. I can also offer you a free pre or post night hotel room!
