Final Day at Kakslauttanen Resort – An Unforgettable Finish in Lapland

Our adventure at the Kakslauttanen Resort in Finland had reached its final day, and it truly ended on a high note. The morning started with becoming leaders of a dog sled team! It was a thrilling experience to take the reins of the husky safari. Ashley and I took turns, with each of us taking the lead at the halfway point, enjoying the stunning winter landscape around us as we raced through the snow with the dogs. We then got to visit the husky puppies who were a few months old.

After the husky safari, it was time for another adventure: snowmobiling. This was my first time, and I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful setting to experience it. The ride was a bit bumpy at times as the snow-covered trails led us deeper into the Lapland wilderness. I chose the two hour excursion and it was so much fun!

As the day came to a close, we prepared for our last night in this magical part of Finland. We hopped on a bus to chase the northern lights. While we waited for the lights, we were offered a sample of Finnish vodka. It was quite chilly out so we waited on the bus then we caught a glimpse of the aurora borealis. As we returned to the resort, the lights were incredibly strong, and we were lucky enough to watch them on our walk back to the cabin and from the igloo. It was the perfect way to end our Lapland adventure.

The next day, we made our way back to Helsinki. However, the journey wasn’t without a little hiccup—my crossbody bag went missing. Thankfully, with the help of a trusty AirTag and some persistence, I was able to track it down. But there was no time to dwell on the inconvenience, as we still had to enjoy our farewell dinner. At Notes, we savored a delicious salad, fresh salmon, and cheesecake.

Our final breakfast at Lilia Robert’s hotel the next morning was a bittersweet. After a relaxed morning, we boarded a bus to the airport, and I was relieved to finally get my bag back just in time for our flight. A few minutes of waiting at the airport was all I had before our flight took us home. I flew Finnair from Helsinki to Miami, then back on American Airlines to Washington, D.C.

And just like that, our amazing time in Finland came to an end. It was an unforgettable experience.
