Zermatt

Foggy Peaks & Cheesy Dreams

We boarded the Gornergrat Railway, one of the highest cogwheel railways in Europe, winding our way up to the summit in hopes to get a glimpse of the Matterhorn. The ride up was stunning alpine landscapes, but the fog at the top was stubborn, hiding the Matterhorn from full view. I did however, spot a mountain goat!

At the summit, we visited the Zermatt Museum to learn more about the history of mountaineering in the region and the story of the first ascent of the Matterhorn. Then it was time for a real treat: lunch at “Say Cheese!”—an appropriately named alpine eatery with cozy vibes and seriously good food. I had a delicious cheesy lunch followed by rich Swiss hot chocolate.

Prior to my descent back into Zermatt, the fog began to lift just enough for a few beautiful views of the surrounding peaks, although the Matterhorn remained hidden.

Back in Zermatt, we had free time to explore the village. I wandered through the charming streets, browsed shops, and admired the wooden chalets that line the cobblestone roads.

Later, I took a quick dip in the hotel pool and hot tub before my massage appointment at the hotel, and it was absolutely wonderful.

To end the evening, I walked to the Zermatt Cheese Factory for an authentic cheese fondue dinner, paired with a crisp local white wine.

After dinner, I took a quiet evening walk since we are sadly it was our last night in Zermatt.
