Highlands to Alpine Adventure Day 15 – Switzerland Day 3: Medieval Murten & Panoramic Peaks

Switzerland continues to impress with its charm, history, and jaw-dropping scenery—and today was no exception.

We began the day by boarding a train to the postcard-perfect town of Murten, a well-preserved medieval gem on the shores of Lake Murten. Our walking tour took us through cobbled streets lined with colorful buildings. One of the highlights? Walking along Murten’s original town walls, which offer incredible views over the rooftops and lake below.

After the tour, we had free time to explore and enjoy lunch. I wandered before settling in at a local café to savor Swiss specialties and soak up the peaceful vibe.

In the afternoon, we took a scenic boat ride across Lake Murten on our way back to Neuchâtel. The views from the water were stunning.

Back in Neuchâtel, I took the Funiculaire de Chaumont to the top of the hill for a panoramic view over the town, the lake, and beyond. You need to have a coin with you in order to access the tower and get the views truly from the top. I am a bit afraid of heights but was glad I took the adventure up to the top for the views above the treetops.

I wrapped up the day taking advantage of the beautiful weather by walking through town and along the waterfront. I never miss getting my steps in when I am traveling!
